Electricity Short-circuit Dominates Fire Cases in West Jakarta

The West Jakarta Fire and Rescue Sub-agency has noted that fire cases in Central Jakarta area are mostly triggered by electricity short-circuit with a total of 59 out of 88 cases throughout January-April.

The highest number of fire cases is in Taman Sari Sub-district (18 cases), followed by Kembangan (14 cases), Kebon Jeruk (13 cases), Cengkareng (13 cases) and Kalideres (13 cases).

"The rest is caused by cigarettes, chemicals and burning waste," expressed West Jakarta Fire and Rescue Sub-agency's Operation Division Head, Eko Sumarno, Monday (5/4).

He stated, burning objects are dominated by in house buildings (30 cases), air cables (22 cases), public buildings and markets (17 cases) and the rest are waste, vehicles and so on.

"The estimated loss reached Rp 11,327,550,000. While 30 cases of fire were successfully extinguished by locals and 58 cases were by officers," he told.

Therefore, his sub-agency appealed to the public to increase vigilance, especially during Ramadan. Make sure the stove has been turned off after cooking and do not leave the stove on and so on.
